Timothy's Tikka House

In the heart of Cabbagetown, this is a little corner restaurant. At first I was a bit daunted: the menu had combo specials, like tandoori chicken with french fries or the daily soup (!!!), so I was worried that I had come into the Indo-Canadian equivalent of bad ethnic cooking.
Thankfully, I was wrong. I had a lovely channa masala with some good naan bread. Apparently, my dining companions were dying over the butter chicken as well.
The server was super-nice and very helpful; a very useful thing when you have a restaurant that barely seats 25. He was also awfully gracious, considering that we brought up the noise level in his restaurant up by about 10 million decibels by being there :)
There was some other stuff I wanted to try as well (aloo gobi! roti!), but didn't. Oh well, perhaps next time...

Toni Bulloni Trattoria Americana

In the heart of Yorkville, went with some friends for a yummy lunch. Three of us got the exact same thing: a pretty amazing spinach salad, garnished with carmelized onions, bacon (cause, of course, everything tastes better with bacon) and Dijon, followed by grilled salmon, which, as my esteemed farmer friend said, was "excellent": them's some pretty strong words from a farmer :)
Conclusion of meal with dessert (homemade tiramisu! Yum!), and accompanied by an Australian Chardonnay.... then we rolled back out for our regularly scheduled program... seriously, I could live like this every day...

Bistro 333

This is a little restaurant on King St W, by the theatres. We went for lunch, where I had a caesar salad (nothing special), and a lovely penne a la vodka... a bit on the salty side b/c of the smoked salmon, but otherwise good. My dining companion had an amazing yellow beet soup, and a warm seafood salad with jumbo shrimp, and generous amounts of scallops and mussels. Overall, a well eaten afternoon....

Sala Thai

Dropped by here on Eglinton near the Allen for a late night bite, but as noted before from Goldstone, I was still quite full from Chinatown lunch. So I only managed to eat a few bites of my mango/chicken/coriander rice roll, and then passed the rest to my dining companion... yet somehow magically, I managed to also get coerced to have some Baskin Robbins afterwards...

Goldstone Noodle House

Can you believe that I have never eaten here before? Anyways, went with some friends and some good 'ol BBQ pork, yeah! on a huge bed of rice... made me so full, but it was good eating... couldn't eat much at the next place for dinner b/c of it...

Yumi

This is a sushi restaurant in Bloor West Village. It's actually a few doors down from another sushi restaurant called Yama, but I digress....
We had a lovely salmon/asparagus/avocado makimono set, followed by some soba and tempura. Fairly decent fare, nothing extraordinary, but nice atmosphere and good food.

Arriba/The Real Jerk

OK, I didn't actually dine in these establishments, but we did go to the Taste of Toronto, and they had booths there. Arriba (usually in the Skydome) served this excellent lamb tagine on couscous, a bargain at $3, with lots of chunks of lamb, and The Real Jerk (usually at Queen and Broadview) had good old rice and peas, coleslaw and jerk chicken/pork/oxtail. Yum yum! The Real Jerk folk were really nice, as I kept on coming back to their booth, impatiently waiting for the jerk to be done... luckily though, we then ended up being the first ones to get the meat off the grill! Others had butter chicken from Kama Kama, ribs from Lone Star, and we finished off with lemon coconut squares from... well, I forget which booth actually... yum....

Asuka

OK, OK, so going to a sushi resto in Yorkville on the first weekend night of the TIFF may not be the smartest place to be able to actually get a place to sit, let alone eat, but we lucked out... though we were in the table closest to the door....
Had a lovely, large meal... mmmm, even had some sunomono salad, which was quite tasty, though a bit watery in the dressing... and, not so sadly, nary a celebrity in sight, though many a pretty young thing were walking around...
