Pita Pit

OK, so this is a franchise, the particular branch in the Annex. Though basically I paid for a pita full of vegetables. Though they were fresh vegetables and thus healthy for me. And they have incredibly student friendly pricing. Which, I suppose, if you're paying for a pita full of lettuce and tomatoes, just so you can tell people you're eating something, is what you'd expect to pay....

Salad King

Ah, the classic, especially dear since it does belong to the Fung clan. Obviously, this wasn't my choice, having been here many a time before. This time though, I decided to go with the secret menu and order off the carte, which impressed my dining companions. And it was pretty good, though couldn't finish it, which is OK, cause Thai leftovers are always a good thing.

Sushi Inn

A little hole in the ground in the chi-chi-la-la neighbourhood of Yorkville. Again, still not hungry; had some sushi though, and it was pretty good. Not anything more out of the ordinary than any other sushi. Though the edamame appetizer that came for my companion was a HUGE portion, so they were quite pleased with that.

Green Mango

This used to be a place where there was cafeteria style serving of Thai food, a hangout for students to get cheap Thai food. Now it's a little bit more upscale, or at least, maybe that's because it was in the Bloor West Village area rather than the downtown U of T branch.
It's hard to comment on this food, as I ate very little to none of it really (sorry folks, my appetite has been next to negligible), just enough to keep my co-diners happy. And, I can't comment on that either, as I don't think my tastebuds are up to par.... next....

Filet of Sole

So, in taking advantage of the Winterlicious Festival in Toronto, we decided to do lunch at Filet of Sole, which is just down the street from Roy Thompson Hall. We noted that this must be a destination for many a tourist, as the bill came in both US and Canadian currency (!) Also, there was a large, ?styrofoam octopus on the ceiling.
But irrespective of that, we had a super lovely-licious meal! Appetizers of coconut shrimp (these were the most excellent coconut shrimp I've eaten!), spring rolls and mussels already made the trip here worth it. Well, and they actually had a banana bread pudding, and it was very good, and we all know that I love a good bread pudding, especially if there's a good rum/brandy/chocolate sauce to go with (they had rum)... So, in actuality, if they had just fed us appetizers and dessert, I would've been quite satisfied. However, the mains were also very good, though perhaps lacking in originality; cedar planked salmon and parchment-wrapped sole, though the sides were just regular potatoes and greens.
However, after a nice, leisurely 1 1/2 hour lunch, we were ready to roll out the restaurant, and unfortunately onwards to our regularly scheduled day... as Irene would say: "No need to fill up on burgers!"

East Side Mario's

A chain?!?! What the heck am I doing at a chain, especially out in Scarborough (specifically at Warden and Eglinton)? Well, I personally hadn't been to ESM in, oh, probably about a decade, so it was a nice re-visit... besides, it was for a friend's birthday. We ate a lot of the unlimited salad and garlic bread, so all had a difficult time eating our mains, and we entirely skipped dessert... sometimes it makes me wonder how on earth people manage to eat appetizers, mains and desserts at these places that offer gargantuan proportions... on the other hand, I think I could handle a meal at Susur.... :) (one day; that's a meal to aspire to)...

Plaza Flamingo

This is a very big Spanish/flamenco place by Bathurst and College. No one really wanted to go all out and get paella, but we did get some sangria; a bit on the sweet side, but I think that's what made it soooo easy to drink. Personally, I got fajitas, even though that's technically Mexican. And they were OK; pretty much like fajitas all over the place. I suppose it was also a nice touch that we had a flamenco guitar player playing in one corner of the (cavernous) restaurant....

Big Fat Burrito

This is a little corner store in Kensington that sells, unsurprisingly, burritos. Apparently, there is another, more famous, burrito place further into the core, but this is the one that's near work. Admittedly, they do make, big, fat, burritos for a great price. I am particularly fond of their vegetarian burritos. Yes, that does sound like I've been there more than once, but some of the girls at work swear by them....
